What is Facial Contouring?

Facial contouring consists of multiple sought after aesthetic treatments at Dr. Hutchinson’s Upper East Side practice. Using one or more of the different methods listed below, she will safely and effectively make the desired changes to improve your existing facial appearance. Dr. Hutchinson’s extensive experience and skill — together with today’s advanced techniques — allow her to deliver beautiful, natural-looking results.

What Can Facial Contouring Do?

When skillfully performed, facial contouring can address many areas of concern by utilizing combinations of treatments and procedures such as fillers, fat grafting, and other facial treatments to improve the overall appearance of the face. From sunken cheeks and a weak chin to an oversized nose, facial contouring can achieve the following:

  • Lift or add volume to sagging/hollow cheeks
  • Define a lax jawline
  • Sculpt or soften cheekbones
  • Volumize hollow temples
  • Contour a more attractive nose
  • Improve projection of a weak chin

Fat Transfer

Fat transfer (fat grafting) is one of the best methods of achieving a more youthful facial appearance that both looks and feels natural. It’s a safe, completely natural, non-allergenic procedure that effectively adds volume to the face where needed, such as flattened cheekbones, gaunt cheeks, and hollow temples.

During fat transfer, Dr. Hutchinson will use a special type of fat harvesting technique similar to liposuction to remove unwanted fat from an area, typically the abdomen, thighs, or hips. Once the fat has been harvested, it will be purified and then placed into a syringe so that it can be injected into the areas of the face where volume is lacking.

Many patients opt for this method of facial filling, as there is no risk of an allergic reaction or the body rejecting the fat.

Dermal Fillers

Everyone knows that dermal fillers are great for hiding lines and wrinkles, but they’re also an excellent option for:

  • Sculpting the face
  • Lifting the cheeks
  • Plumping lips
  • Adjusting the appearance of the nose
  • Strengthening the chin
  • Squaring the jaw

Hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers and calcium hydroxyapatite (CaHA) fillers are versatile and can contour many different parts of the face, achieving significant results with very little downtime. Treatments are quick and convenient, with just a few injections.

Different dermal fillers have many different uses, and Dr. Hutchinson is knowledgeable in how to select the right filler(s) to achieve the most natural-looking and beautiful results possible.

Buccal Fat Pad Excision

Some patients have naturally fuller cheeks, which may create a rounded facial appearance In order to provide better contrast between the cheekbones and cheeks and a more chiseled looking face, buccal fat pad excision may be performed.

This surgery is often complementary to enhancement of the cheekbones with fat grafting and provides additional contouring.

Buccal fat pad excision involves placing a small incision inside the mouth in order to remove the extra fat from the cheeks. The operation is performed in the operating room under sedation anesthesia for maximum safety and patient comfort. Results are immediate and permanent, creating a more sculpted facial appearance.

Rhinoplasty

Some individuals have cosmetic concerns about the appearance of their nose. As a very prominent facial feature, the nose can throw off the entire balance of the face if it’s too large, crooked, or has an unattractive tip. This is where rhinoplasty (both surgical and non-surgical) can greatly help.

During surgical rhinoplasty, Dr. Hutchinson will create permanent changes to the nose, including adjusting cartilage and/or straightening a crooked appearance. Recovery is approximately 2-4 weeks, and full healing can take up to one year.

With non-surgical rhinoplasty, dermal fillers are used to achieve small, temporary nose alterations. These changes include:

  • Hiding a bump on the bridge
  • Balancing a crooked nose
  • Adding volume to a low bridge
  • Correcting a drooping nasal tip

During your consultation with Dr. Hutchinson, she will discuss whether your aesthetic goals would best be suited with a surgical or non-surgical rhinoplasty.

Chin Implants

When the chin is too small, it can distract from the other features of the face and have a negative impact on facial proportions. A weak chin can make the nose appear larger than it really is, resulting in a poorly defined profile that can have a profound effect on an individual’s confidence.

Chin augmentation is achieved with either surgical advancement of the bone or with a chin implant or dermal fillers.

A chin implant is typically made of flexible solid silicone and comes in various sizes to match the unique structure of your face. Once it has been surgically inserted into your chin, it looks and feels natural.

When dermal fillers are used to enhance the chin, the results may also be excellent, but they are temporary.

During your consultation with Dr. Hutchinson, she will discuss whether your aesthetic goals can be met with a surgical or non-surgical chin augmentation.
