What is Fat Transfer?

Fat is removed from an area of the body where it can be spared (usually the abdomen, flanks, or thighs) and is then injected into areas where needed to increase or replace lost volume. What Happens During the Fat Transfer Procedure?

Fat transfer is performed under sterile conditions in the operating room and usually requires local anesthetic and intravenous sedation for maximum patient comfort.

The first step during fat transfer is to remove the fat from another part of your body using a technique similar to liposuction. A tiny incision is made at the donor site, and a thin cannula is inserted to suction out the fat, which is then purified. Finally, the fat is precisely injected into areas of deflation and depletion to enhance contour and aesthetic appearance.

Some of the fat may be resorbed, but the majority of fat cells survive and produce a very long lasting, natural looking result.

Natural Breast Augmentation with Fat Transfer

Fat transfer can also provide a natural alternative to breast implants. For women who are interested in a subtle enhancement of their breast contour or restoration of breast volume and shape after pregnancy, fat transfer is an excellent option.

After the fat is removed from another area of the body and purified, it is placed into a syringe so that it can be injected into the surrounding breast tissue. This provides a noticeable yet more subtle enhancement than breast implants, and there is no risk of breast implant related complications. With fat transfer, breast augmentation results are permanent.

Natural breast augmentation with fat transfer is safely performed under IV sedation anesthesia. Appropriate candidates for the procedure are women who desire a moderate increase in breast volume and have sufficient fat available for transferring into their breasts. Although most of the transferred fat will retain its volume, multiple sessions may be necessary to achieve the best results with the desired breast shape and size.
