Often patients are concerned about only one particular aspect of their appearance, whether it’s their eyes, jowls or neck. Providing customized procedures to improve their looks requires considerable judgement and experience, combined with an understanding of anatomy. In some cases, a full facelift, or rhytidectomy, is necessary to provide the best results. This includes tightening and repositioning the skin and tissues in the face, as well as improving the contour in the neck. In other cases, an isolated neck lift with limited incisions and smaller scars, will provide the desired result. Surgical neck lifts range from liposuction alone to a full muscle tightening neck lift. Liposuction uses the smallest incisions, removes the fatty tissue from under the chin, and an improved contour results once the neck skin tightens. In more extensive surgery, a slightly longer incision is made under the chin and the platysma muscle is sutured in the midline. The skin is then redraped behind the ears in order to produce the final result. In the most comprehensive surgery, the neck lift is combined with a facelift in order to improve on the visible signs of aging in the cheeks, jowls, and neck.

Although some type of surgery on the neck is still considered the gold standard for producing the most noticeable and longest lasting and most noticeable results, non-surgical interventions with non-invasive skin tightening devices may be sought after by some patients who are reluctant to undergo any surgery.  Some of these devices produce more modest, temporary results, and require multiple treatment sessions for visible effects. Neck rejuvenation may be combined with blepharoplasty, rhinoplasty, Botox® and fat injections or other plastic surgery procedures.
