New Options For Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation has been available for women for decades, and today we have even more breast implant options to consider than ever. Both saline and silicone gel may be used as filling material, and implants which were traditionally round also come anatomically or tear drop shaped to match the natural shape of the breast. Other advances include the development of different types of gel with increasing shape retention, as well as the addition of many size and projection combinations, thus giving surgeons the ability to create a wide range of new and improved breast looks for their patients. The entry of Sientra as the third implant maker in the U.S. after Allergan and Mentor added even greater number of breast implant choices. Recently, even more options were made available by the FDA clearance of the Natrelle® Inspira™ silicone breast implants. The Inspira™ breast implant line distinguishes itself by a higher fill ratio, which allows for additional shaping options in breast augmentation as well as breast reconstruction and breast implant revision surgery. This latest addition to the implant market brings the number of round gel filled implant types to several hundred.

Plastic surgeons nowadays have a much broader spectrum of possibilities when choosing breast implants for women who are considering breast augmentation. Every patient has their own individual characteristics in terms of breast shape and size, skin quality, and breast symmetry, as well as their desired outcome from surgery. It is all the more complex of a choice and requires open communication and discussion between the patient and her plastic surgeon to determine which of the many options will produce the best results for her.
